Things I'm learning from reading the New Testament

Write at least two short paragraphs describing anything new that you have learned including how you learned it; mention how your life is changing or will change as a result of what you have studied this week, and include any other questions for the instructor or insights you would like to share.

I have learned that I enjoy studying the new testament.  I love how we are seeing Christ teaching and healing during this three-year ministry and how he brings the gospel to the people.  It amazes me that there were some non-believers.  I can’t fathom the thought of witnessing the miracles and not believing Him.  I love how the Savior teaches in parables and how even today parables are easier to understand. I have been really, studying the scriptures and understanding the stories through parables has helped me to get what He is saying to me. I love opening my scriptures and finding something new and exciting to apply to my life.
My life has been changing for the better.  My family and friends have told me they see a light in me they have not seen since I was having babies.  I love that I’m understanding my scriptures and I’m able to talk to family and friends with confidence about them.  Again, the parables used to have me a little confused until I went to the Webster’s dictionary and learned what a parable is “  examplespecifically :  a usually short fictitious story that illustrates a moral attitude or a religious principle” Now in the bible dictionary “The word parable is Greek in origin and means a setting side by side, a comparison. In parables, divine truth is presented by comparison with material things. The Hebrew word, mashal, which parable is used to translate, has a wider significance and is applied to the balanced metrical form in which teaching is conveyed in the poetical books of the Old Testament. See Matt. 13:35.”….Wow! A parable is a comparison. How simple is that?  Now that I know this I can read a passage or two and compare what I’m reading to today’s situations and I understand it.
