Acton Hero: David Carrington  (video notes)

David Carrington launched RACINGUSA.COM in 1999 and the website is now the most frequently shopped, independently owned NASCAR store in the world.

1st step to entrepreneurship is to think backwards, not problem solution, solution to problem. Most successful entrepreneurs go from thinking backwards to thinking randomly. They take all kinds of input and the come up with solutions that no one else would think and that's what makes them entrepreneurs.

The Dale Earnhardt story -
Tragedy in 2001  (his death) killed in a crash in Daytona - he worked on a banner to put at the top of the site - he got like 300 orders for the banner within the first 5-6 minutes ---lots of people are raising their prices and he could make a lot of money by raising his prices but that's taking advantage of this families tragedy

The struggle -
April 22, 1999 - he was diagnosed with cancer - cancer sorta forces you to re-asses and because of that event I was able to take a step back and look at the balance and decide he was out of balance he had a computer software company and 4 retail stores at that time and basically my businesses were running my life instead of my life running my businesses.

The customer - client relationship -
We get so engrained in what we are doing that we don't take a breath to see why we're doing it. Some people who want to make it will go and accept customers/clients that they really don't like and that they really don't want to do business with.

Growing a business -
There is only 3 ways to grow a business
  1. Increase your number of customers
  2. Increase the frequency of purchases
  3. Increase the average order.

Entrepreneurs need to know who they are and where their brand is  and consistently execute the brain. If you'll do that you'll be successful.
